Nanny State is the first alcohol-free beer from Scottish brewers, BrewDog. Malty, hoppy with a seriously long bitter finish, this alcohol-free craft beer is still holding its own in an increasingly crowded alcohol-free beer market, nearly 8 years after it was launched. Nanny State from BrewDog is lactose-free (so suitable for vegans), seriously hoppy, malty and with a body that belies its 0.5% ABV. Nanny State might have been brewed initially in response to the 18.2% Tokyo from BrewDog, but it has definitely found its place as one of the best alcohol-free beers around. This pale ale pours like a regular strength beer, it smells like a regular strength beer and this very drinkable beer drinks like a regular strength beer too.
Nanny State was launched in March 2013 and continues to be one of the better alcohol-free options.
What does BrewDog Nanny State taste like?
Nanny State, the pale ale from BrewDog pours like a regular strength beer. It produces a good head and a deep amber colour. There are some seriously fruity notes in the aroma, citruses and some pine. This smells like a “proper” beer. I’m excited to drink it.
And the mouthfeel is full. Nanny State doesn’t contain lactose (and is therefore suitable for vegans), the lack of which gives many alcohol-free beers a thin, almost watery taste. It’s the combo of speciality malts and the North American hops that this beer is stuffed full of that keeps it full of taste. BrewDog uses Ahtanum, Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Colombus and Simcoe hops in Nanny State. And this is a great beer, that has you wondering just how much alcohol is in it. It’s 0.5% ABV. That’s all.
And its fabulous. So head on over to DryDrinker and buy your stash of Nanny State now.
